Al Blagha Group along with Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) has entered into agreements with a consortium led by the Alexandria Port Authority for the construction, operation, and management of two container terminals at the ports of Alexandria and El Dekheila in Egypt. Both terminals are situated on the Mediterranean Sea. They are well-positioned to handle cargoes from the hinterland as Alexandria Port serves as Egypt's main commercial port. As part of the agreements, a new joint venture company, Alexandria International Container Terminals (AICT), has been established in order to develop the general cargo terminals into modern container handling facilities. The two terminals have undergone an extensive modernization program and are now fully operational. Both terminals have a 12 metre depth alongside. Alexandria Terminal commenced operations in March 2007 and El Dekheila came online three months later. The project intially handled 200K TEUs which has currently grown to 500K TEUs. Incorporating the global experience, best practices and proprietary leading-edge technologies AICT is able to manage its operations at the highest levels of efficiency, security and services.
